My Greed

   MY GREED

With compliments to “My Creed” by Dean Alfange

I do not choose to be a common man!

It is my right to be uncommon.. and I can.

I will not be a kept citizen, all humble and contrite

I’ll take my chances, win or lose, on being well-to-do and white.

I bravely choose to take big risks and dream,

And boldly face the world, while I’m on the winning team.

I will never cower to a master, or bend to any threat –

That’s just not the way that we behave in the proper social set.

What need have I of Federal aid to run faster than the slow?

Why should I be taxed for schools, once I’m in the know?

I refuse to barter for the dole like some jobless creep,

I prefer the challenges of life –- from my place atop the heap.

Why take a seat in second class when there’s one reserved in first?

Why live in stale Utopia and be merely equal with the worst?

No, I stand proud and unafraid, on the right side of the track,

And disdain to be old and sick, or poor,  or some disadvantaged black.

Nay, you’ll never hear me beg the state for help,  as long as I can’t lose.

There’s nothing like being born to win – and bragging that I choose.

    Hi John
Did you intend to write this as Tony Blairs new socialist manifesto?
